Check out your phone plan and get rid of things you don't need. If you're not on the phone for long periods of time, don't pay extra for three way calling that you rarely use.

Is your plan the cheapest in town? Instead of going with a name brand company like Sprint or Verizon, you should be able to find phone companies who offer plans at very cheap rates. Just remember to do your research and find out all you can on these companies before you make the big switch.

All in one bundles can hurt you or help you. Compare different plans from multiple phone companies. One may offer everything for a set price, but someone else may have a better offer without all the unnecessary thrills.

If you have to make a lot of long distance calls for family, friends or work, find a company that offers a low rate plan that includes local and long distance calls.

Instead of dialing 411 whenever you need a number, go online. Almost all stores have a presence on the internet. Even if it's a one page website that lists their phone number and address. Alternatively, don't forget that you may still have a phone somewhere in the house.

If you have to use 411 because of lack of phone books or the internet, do it for free with the use of free411. When you call this number, you will get the same help in finding a person or company, but your phone bill will not be charged. You can even have them make the call for you free of charge. Another free 411 number is from search engine giant, Google.

Keep a cheap phone card in your purse or wallet at all times. If you have to use a pay phone and don't have any change, simply use the card instead of an expensive collect call to your home phone.
